Description

The Pillivuyt Quartet Small 7 x 7 - 1 quart Square Baker can multi-task as a baker, roaster, or serving dish. This square baker is perfect for roasting vegetables, a game hen or baking your favorite casserole. Use this versatile piece for serving pasta or baking a hearty apple crisp. The Square Baker is also available in Medium 8.5 x 8.5 - 1.75 quart and Large 10 x 10 ¿ 2.5 quart sizes. The Quartet look is based on a dish towel that was popular in the Berry region of France at the turn of the last century; the design has a pleasing rumpled look. The rustic lines of this 100 year old pattern are maintained in Pillivuyt's Quartet collection which includes plates in five sizes, rimmed and un-rimmed bowls in four sizes, platters in three sizes, roasters in three sizes and many other pieces. The walls of these dishes, as in all Pillivuyt items, are created with a perfectly uniform thickness for exceptionally even and efficient heat conduction. Pillivuyt porcelain is fired at 2550 degrees Fahrenheit, so you can safely put any dish under the broiler for that final browning or finishing touch.

Customer Reviews

5 out of 5 stars beautiful and durable french porcelain bowl
E. Brinkley

French porcelain really is the best, and Pillivuyt tends to be a little more stylish, less of simply a sturdy workhorse than Apilco, which I love, too. I've found that over time, this Pillivuyt bowl has performed very well. It goes in the dishwasher with no yellowing/discoloring, hasn't crazed at all (those little cracks in the finish), and has a little weight to it in the hand. It isn't as thin as non-French porcelain. Intensely colored items like beets and broccoli look great in it (it's a bright, glossy white without being too bright), though I've put everything from soup to salad to chips in the bowl and everything seems to look terrific. The squareness might seem odd, but it really works. This bowl looks and performs very well, and I'm sure it will for years. Usually buying these items through Amazon all but guarantees that you're getting a good deal on it. I only wish Amazon carried more Pillivuyt. It isn't quite as large as I expected, maybe about 8" square at the top and 4" or 5" at the bottom, roughly (I can't seem to find my measuring tape). Great product.
