Description

Pinzon Petali earthenware enhances any tabletop with fresh, subtle color. The Petali, or "petals", pattern was designed exclusively for Pinzon by Caleca, a company renowned for making unique Italian ceramics. Petali dinnerware reflects the beauty of spring and summer and is entirely hand painted, using non-toxic colors, by skilled decorators. This rectangular baker features a white interior and an exterior with a sky-blue border, green outline, and delicate floral design. It's constructed of durable high-fired earthenware coated in a lustrous, lead-free glaze that resists warping and cracking. The multi-purpose piece is ideal for preparing traditional lasagna, casseroles, and brownies, and for roasting meats, fish, and vegetables. It measures 14-1/2 by 9 by 2-1/2 inches. Complement the baker with Pinzon's Petali place settings, fruit bowls, serveware, and other bakers and casseroles. Pinzon earthenware lives up to the rigors of the microwave, gas or electric oven, and dishwasher. It's made in Italy.

5 out of 5 stars Mama Talliaferro Says
Michael W. Taylor

I grew up across the street from Benito Talliaferro & Fam. from N. Italy. My Mom, an accomplished Southern cook herself & Mama Talliaferro started a cooking competition in the early 60's between the kids in both our families so I became aware of this type of cookware & it's care. There are two types. Caleca Petali is in the pottery classs of China and is more fragile. Caleca Pinzon is in the class of stoneware and is more durable. If your baking dish has no hole in the bottom (looks like a toothpick inserted) read no further. If it does- it is double walled and should be hand washed with care taken to ensure that water does not enter the cavities inside. Do not put in dishwasher, and do not immerse in water to clean. Even though it is dishwater safe- it is- it is inadvisable to do this as this will almost insure that water will collect inside. Since the cavities are not entirely predictable, if there is water inside and the dish is placed in a hot oven the resulting steam can fracture the dish. Scrape food out manually, then fill with hot soapy water with the sink drain open to prevent immersion and let sit overnite. After cleaning by hand, tilt the dish so the hole is down on a dishtowel to absorb any water extant inside. A good test if you've "dishwashed" or immersed it inadvertantly is to shake it back & forth & listen/feel for sloshing water. If you hear/feel it, place it in the oven upside down & preheat it at 170 degrees for about 30 minutes. Then increase the heat to just above boiling- say 215-225 degrees and bake & test periodically until all water is boiled out. These are classic Italian serving/baking dishes and with proper use & care will last for a very long time. And as for esthetics, they beat Pyrex hands down.

I bought the quiche dish and covered serving bowl along with the rectangular baking dish. I don't have the whole set but wanted some nice serving dishes, and these are very pretty on the table. They are somewhat heavy, however, I am very happy with these pieces, especially for the price.
