Description

Marinex Glass Bakeware production began over 50 years ago by Santa Marina, the largest glass manufacturer in Latin America. Located in Brazil, Santa Marina has been producing different glass products since 1895. The factory location is close to raw material deposits of boron and sand which is rich in color and quality. During the production process, these raw materials are combined using heat to make borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is resistant to changes in temperatures used in cooking and baking. The raw materials also give Marinex glass bakeware a slight bluish tint consistant throughout all pieces. Marinex Glass Bakeware offers several shapes and sizes that have countless uses in culinary activities and are prominent by their beauty, durability, and ease of cleaning. It can be used to prepare, bake, and serve food as well as to freeze prepared food. It is safe for both conventional ovens and microwave ovens. Marinex Bakeware can go from the freezer/refrigerator to a pre-heated oven where the oven temperature does not exceed 100C or 212F to start. However, Marinex Bakeware should not be used on stovetop burners or over a direct flame. This is a 1.6qt. loaf baking dish that measures 10-5/8" x 5-1/2" x 2-3/4". Marinex 1-2/3-Quart Rectangular Loaf Dish3 reviews in one: Amazon, the Dish, and Marinex.1-Amazon: My first order on Amazon, multiple items, one box. All items were very well wrapped individually but rather loose in the box. The box got damaged on the side but no items were damaged thanks to the individual wrappings. However, this loaf dish had a defect, very visible chip on the inside which was clearly done before the great wrapping. That leads me to think that either Amazon received the item already wrapped and passed it along, or that no quality inspection was done before the wrapping. The return was quick - as quick as USPS -, flawless, paid for, the replacement item was good, moving on to baking. Amazon does not get 5 stars on this one but 4 as this could have been avoided.2-the Dish: not much to say about the dish itself, except that I used it for lasagna (1 sheet 4 layers), corn bread, white bread, and pound cake anywhere from 350F to 450F (572F max allowed) from 30 up to 60 min without any pb but following safety instructions (pre-heat oven, wood trivet). I cannot say about longevity yet.Dimensions on Label (ext):10 5/8" x 5 1/2" x 2 3/4"270 x 139 x 70 mm1,5 L / 1.6 qtMy Dimensions:Inside flat bottom (int):8" x 4" x 2.5"203.2 x 101.6 x 63.5 mmWater to the rim1.575 L / 1 2/3 qt3-Marinex: Disappointed, but maybe I was misinformed. Pyrex USA (from World Kitchen) and Anchor explode easily, taking one out of the oven and on a cold stovetop is a hazard, temp cannot exceed 425F. Pyrex EU (from Arc International) is more resistant to heat, temp can reach 500F. Complains, blogs, lab tests would lead you to believe the material is at fault, good old borosilicate glass vs. new cheap soda-lime glass. People are looking for brands still using borosilicate. Marinex Brazil claims it does but does not say how much of it, just that "Boro Plus" technology is used. Boro Plus specs say up to 5% but have been debunked by lab rats claiming none or certainly not the required 11%. A few also say the glass tempering is not uniform in terms of quality, they can see it through polarized lenses. Conclusion: exploding Pyrex has been a problem ever since the switch to soda lime has happened in the USA, the internet allowing the stories to spread only recently (check Pyrex wiki page, Composition paragraph). Marinex might not be considered a Pyrex USA replacement just yet, and nothing really shows Pyrex EU is really a better glass material, although the EU products are more expensive, with a better quality reputation along the factory production lines, which is something I could believe in.2 stars below average not for the dish but because the "Boro Plus" technology info is not on the website (LancasterColony/Marinex/SantaMarina) and only revealed on the label once you buy the dish, while the main phrase on Lancaster Colony is "The Marinex line of bake ware is made of Borosilicate glass". Had I known, I would have investigated "Boro Plus" beforehand as 0 to 5% range is not 11% minimum. It seems like for Pyrex competitors in the Americas market, using the word "Borosilicate" is a key selling point, while the public at large doesn't know how much of it is really needed and actually in it, or if any of it has been independently tested. However, no return/refund necessary at this price, let see what happens in the future, it seems to hold up well.

We needed a small glass loaf pan for baking corn bread. This dish is perfect for that purpose. The packaging was wonderful and it arrived without a scratch. (I have ordered quite a few Marinex glass pieces in the last month and all have arrived in mint condition.)If you are looking to replace old Pyrex, I highly recommend Marinex. Marinex is made of borosilicate glass, which is what made old Pyrex dishes wonderful. It is more tolerant of heat and cold changes than many other competitors. The glass has a very slight blueish tint.
