First of all the plate is advertised as a "9" plate. The actual diameter of the plate is 6." They call it a 9" plate by using the 3" handle which is added to the actual 6" diameter.Secondly is the fact there is a small hole on the bottom of the handle. I assumed the small hole was there because the handle was hollow. It turns out the whole dish is hollow with the small hole being there to allow the pressure to equalize when the plate is heated. It may not sound like a big thing to have a hollow plate with a small hole in it but if you place it in a dishwasher the small hole allows water to fill the inside of the plate. That water is difficult to get out and could leak all offer the place when carrying the plate to the table. I shook the plates for several minutes and could not get all of the water out.Third, one of the main features you want in an escargo plate is thickness. The thickness helps retain heat which keeps the butter a warm liquid. By making the plate hollow it allows the plate and butter to cool faster which is exactly what you do not want.

This is restaurant quality stuff. Works great and cleans up easy, but....don't put it in the dishwasher as there is a small hole in the underside of the handle and water will get in side. If you hand wash don't put the whole thing under water either. If you buying snails, get good ones, they are worth it.

This product has a tiny hole in the handle. It gets filled with water when washed either by hand or in the dishwasher. It is nearly impossible to get all the water out...as a result one of my dishes actually exploded in the oven due to this water buildup inside the baking dish. I would not recommend this item.
