While only the weight is given for this side dish, and no dimensions, I mistakenly thought it would be wider than it is. I was shocked. It is about right to hold a stack of saltine crackers. The description did say it was ideal for "tasting" and perhaps that is right. I do love the enameled cast iron pieces by Mario Batali and others, but the size of this one is very disappointing. I think Amazon should enter the inside dimensions of the piece, rather than only the weight. I forgot to measure it before sealing the return package, but estimate the inside dimension is no more than 3 inches.

I bought this elsewhere for but $14.99. It is 11" long, a little over 3 &1/2"across and barely 2" deep. Heavy cast iron and beautifully enameled for baking, But just what would this be good for? It says it is a rectangular side dish. OK but what food stuffs go into this to bake? It came with a recipe booklet and inside you find recipes for: Eggplant Involtini, Chestnut custard, Eggs in Purgatory, Ricotta Pudding cake, Potato cake, Neapolitan Lasagne,Ragu Napoletano (makes enough for 3 small lasagnes), Neapolitan Meatballs, Lasagne (2 servings)Green Pasta, and Fennel Gratinato with artichokes and radicchio triviso. The package also has a Use & Care booklet. You need to read this before using the dish.
